Edit Dynamics 365 data in Excel Online instantly

The beauty of a using Dynamics 365 implementation as your central business system is how it integrates with other tools inside the Microsoft Stack. In this blog post, we're going to share a quick tip for you that we think many businesses will find very useful. Excel 365 Online has the capability of updating Dynamics 365 CRM data directly from the spreadsheet. Previously on desktop accessed files, users would need to download an exported .xlsx file, edit the data and reupload it. They would also need to make sure no duplicate records are created during this. With Excel 365 Online, this whole process is bypassed, and any fields that updated will automatically be updated inside CRM. The benefit of this is that users can save significant amount of time by quickly updating data records in bulk.

So how do you do it? Well firstly navigate to the view of the records you want to bulk edit in Excel. You will need to make sure you have the correct ownership of these records.

On the top of your interface click on the three small dots and on the dropdown, click on the Open in Excel Online, then all the records selected will be shown in the excel gird view and then you start updating or enter the new values. For UCI users, this is even quicker by default as there is an Excel Online option directly under the 'Export to Excel' option.

You will be navigated to an Excel spreadsheet featuring all the selected records from your view where you can make your necessary changes. Once you are happy, click the 'Save changes to Dynamics' option on the top of the window.

Next, a prompt will appear, where you can click on the Import link, then it will take you the data import section on the Dynamics 365.

You should now be able to see a view which displays all the imports you have done and whether they have been successful and see what changes have been reflected.

And that's it! Quick and easy way to leverage the power of the Microsoft Stack.
