Microsoft updated its licensing guides in December 2025, giving customers more capacities at no additional cost.
Dataverse is a centralised data platform built on Microsoft Azure. It stores and manages data for Dynamics 365 and Power Platform applications.
Dataverse organises customer data into three capacity types: Database, File, and Log. Each type has its own default capacity limit.
What Are the New Dataverse Capacity Limits?
The recent licensing guide update revealed significant upgrades to the default database and file capacities per tenant. These include:
| Product Type | Storage Type | Previous | New |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Products | Database | 10 GB | 30 GB |
| File | 20 GB | 40 GB | |
| Dynamics 365 Customer Insights | Database | 25 GB | 45 GB |
| File | 40 GB | 60 GB | |
| Power Apps Premium | Database | 10 GB | 20 GB |
| Power Automate Premium | Database | 10 GB | 20 GB |
| Power Pages | Database | 5 GB | 15 GB |
These capacities apply once per tenant, regardless of how many licences you hold.
The latest Dynamics 365 licensing guide and Power Platform licensing guide detail these changes.

Why is Microsoft Increasing Dataverse Capacities?
Microsoft acknowledged that AI-driven workloads are generating more data and require significantly more storage.
In response to customer feedback that the longstanding defaults were insufficient, it has increased the baseline capacities across Dynamics and Power Platform products.
What Does this Mean for Customers?
Microsoft has automatically updated the default entitlements in the Power Platform Admin Centre. No action is required, but we recommend that administrators check their updated default capacities in the Admin Centre.
This is good news for all customers, as it offers extra storage, reducing the need to buy additional capacity as their data grows.
If you’ve previously purchased additional capacity, check whether these higher defaults now cover your needs – you may be able to reduce those extra costs.
